Sunny Cars, the multinational car rental company, was very successful last year with its climate-neutral policy: since its inception, 10,000 cars have been rented in a sustainable manner.

For all of these cars, CO₂ emissions were offset by investing in renewable energy projects that reduce such emissions elsewhere.

Sunny Cars is an all-inclusive car rental broker. This means that the company itself owns no cars, but works with the world’s best car rental companies, which all have strict quality requirements. The company collaborates with major partners such as Avis, Alamo, Budget Rent a Car and Europcar, but also specialists in local airports and towns.

At the end of 2010, Sunny Cars started working with 16 partners in the travel industry to make their operations climate-neutral. The extra costs of offsetting are covered by Sunny Cars on behalf of its partners. René Toet, Managing Director of the Climate Neutral Group, the parent company of GreenSeat: “We’re very pleased with the achievement of 10,000 recorded climate-neutral car rentals. The fact that more and more travel agencies are willing to rent cars standard as climate-neutral  indicates a growing willingness to contribute to climate mitigation. Their efforts contribute to a sustainable future through investments in renewable energy projects such as wind farms, hydropower, and biogas projects.”
